Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have done it again. After finally winning their maiden IPL trophy in 2025, RCB have now defended the title and become only the third team in IPL history to win back-to-back championships. They defeated the Gujarat Titans by five wickets in the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 31).

As the celebrations began across the Narendra Modi Stadium and among millions of RCB fans, there was one special thing that made the victory even more emotional. While the players were soaking the historic moment on the field, two of RCB's greatest-ever stars, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle, were celebrating the success from different corners.

AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle's celebration proves that their bond with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru franchise remains as strong as ever. The two legends from the West Indies and South Africa hold a unique place in the RCB’s history.

Their unforgettable performances, match-winning knocks, and connection with the fans made them icons for the franchise. And even RCB inducted both legendary batters into the franchise Hall of Fame and even retired De Villiers' No. 17 and Gayle's No.33.

Ironically, despite spending some of the best years of their careers with RCB, neither De Villiers nor Gayle got the chance to lift an IPL trophy as players. And that is why the team’s success over the last two seasons has been especially emotional and personal for both the icons.

Just like during RCB's title-winning campaign in 2025, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle were once again part of the IPL 2026 final. The former South African captain was present in Ahmedabad as part of the broadcasting team and witnessed the historic victory from close quarters.

On the other hand, the legendary West Indies power hitter was present at the studio as part of the commentary panel. The moment RCB became champions, both legends could not hide their happiness. De Villiers was full of praise for the team and their remarkable consistency throughout the season.

The former South African captain was also impressed by the incredible atmosphere at the Narendra Modi Stadium. With thousands of fans creating a sea of red and cheering every moment, the occasion felt even more special for De Villiers.

He said that watching RCB lift a second straight trophy was a proud moment, especially because he had spent so many years wearing the same jersey.

AB de Villiers said in his Instagram video: “Alright, two trophies in a row. Back-to-back: 2025, 2026. I'm on their field. I haven't seen the team yet. I will be heading over to them now after a bit of a talk on Jio. I cannot wait to go and see the boys. What a performance from the guys this season. So consistent. Absolute perfection.

From the plans to execution. What a privilege to be here tonight. It was one of the best crowds I've ever seen in my entire life. 100,000 people came to support their respective teams, but it was RCB. I'm a proud man. IPL 2026 champions. What a feeling. What a team. Woo!”

Chris Gayle joins RCB's title party from studio

Gayle's reaction was equally energetic. The West Indies legend celebrated RCB's latest triumph with his trademark enthusiasm. Even though he was not on the ground, he made sure to share his excitement with the screen in the background showing the players celebrating the historic moment.

Chris Gayle congratulated the team on his Instagram video by saying, "RCB, back-to-back. Back-to-back trophies. That's how we roll. We are the champions. RCB, RCB, RCB, RCB. Congratulations, RCB, Bengaluru. We love you, man. Let's go for the hot chick next year. Yeah.”
