Australia National Cricket Team superstar all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has revealed how the South Africa National Cricket Team legend AB de Villiers unintentionally burdened the young batter Dewald Brevis with pressure.

Glenn Maxwell said that the nickname 'Baby AB' is a big burden for Brevis early on in his career because of the legacy created by the Proteas great AB de Villiers.

Dewald Brevis is in red-hot form against Australia

The 22-year-old South Africa batting sensation, Dewald Brevis, looked in red-hot form in the recently concluded three-match T20I series against the Australia National Cricket Team.

He announced his arrival in cricket with his exceptional performances in the ICC Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2022, as he finished as the leading run-getter.

Since then, he has only gotten better, and there is no doubt that he is on a path to greatness. He was given the nickname Baby AB due to his AB de Villiers-like hitting ability, and he embraced it because the Proteas great is also his role model.

Coming back to his performances against Australia, Dewald Brevis struggled to perform in the T20I series opener, scoring just 2 runs, but he bounced back in style in the second match.

He smashed an epic ton off 41 balls and remained unbeaten on 125* off 56 balls, with 12 fours and 8 sixes. Brevis continued his good form in the series finale as well and played an amazing knock.

He smashed an epic 53 runs off 26 balls, with one four and 6 sixes. The maximums that the right-handed batsman hit were quite unbelievable, and he also smoked three no-look sixes in a row.

Brevis has got a lot of talent - Glenn Maxwell

Dewald Brevis is unarguably one of the finest power-hitters coming up in world cricket, and the Aussie star Glenn Maxwell also acknowledged the youngster's talent and efforts.

Speaking after the third T20I, Glenn Maxwell said that Dewald Brevis has got a lot of talent because of which he was fast-tracked into the South African team.

“Brevis has got a lot of talent. It was hard not to see the highlights when he played the U19 World Cup for South Africa. All the Baby AB stuff. It’s a pretty heavy burden he had to have early in his career. He probably got fast-tracked a little bit into the South African side,” said Glenn Maxwell in an interaction with reporters.

His bat swing is really pure - Glenn Maxwell

The Australian all-rounder further highlighted how Brevis worked a lot to make improvements in his game and admitted that stopping the batter is quite hard when he is in flow.

“He’s gone away, worked on his game, and he’s come back playing beautifully. His bat swing is really pure—he’s hard to stop when he gets going,” Maxwell added.

Overall, Dewald Brevis finished as the leading run-getter in the series against Australia, with 180 runs in his bag in three matches at an average of 90. However, South Africa lost the series 1-2.
