Former Chennai Super Kings star batter Ambati Rayudu went on to pick Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav as the better player over AB de Villiers, stating that SKY is more of a grounded match-winner while ABD focuses on individual records.
Recently appearing on the Subhankar Mishra podcast, former CSK star Ambati Rayudu made some shocking claims about Indian players, the Indian team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore, and a few players in the RCB setup as well.
Ambati Rayudu is largely known for his indifference towards RCB, since he pulled out jokes and mocked RCB fans from the Commentary box and also took several direct digs at them, the latest being that they would take 72 years to complete 5 trophies in the IPL, since it took them 18 years for the maiden title.
Rayudu picks Suryakumar Yadav over AB de Villiers as a match-winning batter
In the recent episode of the podcast, Rayudu, in a rapid-fire round, was questioned by host Subhankar Mishra as to whom he would pick between Suryakumar Yadav and AB de Villiers.
To this, the former CSK star, without much ado, went on to choose Surya and leave out AB de Villiers. However, opinions and choices are individual, and even SKY is a very fine T20 cricketer. However, what took the internet by shock was his reason behind the pick.
He claimed that Suryakumar Yadav is more of a match-winner, looking to take his team to the last and win matches for them; however, ABD was a self-centred player looking to be decorated with individual records.
"SKY is a complete player. He stays there till the end to finish off the games. As far as AB de Villiers is concerned, he was all about individual brilliance. Suryakumar Yadav, on the other hand, can finish matches on his own," Ambati Rayudu claimed.

The podcaster even joked as to why ABD was left out: Is it because he was from RCB, to which the cricketer remained unbothered. Rayudu had previously mocked RCB fans as well as former RCB coach Sanjay Bangar from the Champions Trophy commentary box.
Rayudu picked AB de Villiers in his all-time top 3 T20I batter list
During the same podcast, Rayudu was asked to share his favourite batter in the shortest format of the game, in which he picked the likes of the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and followed the list with the names of two versatile cricketers, AB de Villiers and Suryakumar Yadav.
Though he remarked that there are several more stunning players, since a choice has to be made for only the top 3, he would be choosing the former Indian skipper, the Protea legend, and the current Indian T20I skipper, respectively. He later picked Virender Sehwag, Virat Kohli, and Sachin Tendulkar as the three all-time best ODI batters.
Ambati Rayudu picks RCB stars but leaves out ABD from his all-time best IPL XI
When the host, Subhankar, asked Rayudu to pick his all-time IPL Playing XI, he made some startling calls and left out a few very big names. A huge admirer of MS Dhoni, he picked Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma at the top.
Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav followed in the middle order, while CSK legends Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni were also in the team. Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo were picked as the all-rounders, while he picked Lasith Malinga and Sunil Narine as the two bowlers in the side.
The batter just picked 10 players for his IPL XI and left out the likes of AB de Villiers and Jasprit Bumrah from the XI.
