Former South Africa captain AB de Villiers has showered rich praise on Dewald Brevis while targeting IPL teams, including RCB, after the youngster’s incredible century in the ongoing second T20I against Australia at the Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin on Wednesday, August 12.

Dewald Brevis scored a blazing hundred in just 41 balls in a style against Australia. With his maiden ton, Brevis becomes the player who has cracked the second-fastest T20I century for South Africa. After a slow start, the youngster took control, hitting powerful shots and making Australia pay for their mistake after being dropped early on in the ongoing second T20I.

With his remarkable knock of 125 unbeaten runs in Darwin, Brevis also shattered Ruturaj Gaikwad’s record by scoring the highest individual T20I score against Australia. Gaikwad had scored an unbeaten 123 against the Kangaroos in a T20I game in Guwahati in 2023. Brevis also broke Shane Watson’s (124*) record of the highest T20I score in Australia.

After the right-handed batter played a record-breaking knock of 125 unbeaten runs off 56 balls laced with 12 boundaries and 8 sixes against Australia, AB de Villiers criticized the IPL teams like Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for missing the chance to pick Brevis in the IPL Mega Auction 2025 last year.

The Proteas legend further hailed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for signing the young batting sensation, calling it possibly the best decision ever made by the five-time champions. Brevis was signed by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for INR 2.2 Crores as a replacement player after going unsold in the auction.

Notably, Dewald Brevis made his IPL debut with the Mumbai Indians in 2022 and went on to play seven games for them and amassing 161 runs. This performance didn’t satisfy the MI, and they released him ahead of the 2023 season before signing him for the next season.

In 3 games, the Proteas star scored 69 runs, and he was once again released by the five-time IPL champions, and then he went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction. But injuries at the CSK camp have opened the door for him, and he has made the most of the given chances in the IPL 2025.
