However, he recently stepped down from his national duties. Following this, Nayar joined the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coaching staff in IPL 2025.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) removed Abhishek Nayar, fielding coach T Dilip, and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai from the support staff. The BCCI made tough decisions following the disappointing 1-3 series loss in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series in Australia.
