India National Cricket Team explosive opening batsman Abhishek Sharma has been quite lucky in the ongoing fifth and final T20I match of the series against the Australia National Cricket Team.

Abhishek Sharma got lifelines early on in the innings as all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and pacer Ben Dwarshuis dropped regulation catches at the Brisbane Cricket Ground, Woolloongabba, Brisbane, on Saturday, November 8.

In the T20I series opener, Abhishek scored 19 runs before scoring an exceptional 68 runs in the second match at MCG. He looked good in the third and fourth matches and registered scores of 25 and 28 runs.

He was destined to fall for his first single-digit score in the series against the Aussie, but thanks to the fielding blunders of the opposition players, that didn't happen.

First, Glenn Maxwell dropped Abhishek Sharma on the fifth ball of the first over. Ben Dwarshuis bowled a full-length delivery around off-stump to Abhishek, who looked to launch it down the ground for the six.

However, he was unable to make a good connection with the ball and miscued it straight up. Glenn Maxwell came under the ball, and it was an easy chance, but he spilled it and gave a lifeline to the Indian opener.

Then, on the third ball of the fourth over, Ben Dwarshuis himself dropped Abhishek. Nathan Ellis, who has had Abhishek's number, once again managed to trap him.

Abhishek got a thick top-edge off a delivery from Nathan Ellis, and Dwarshuis got under the ball comfortably, but dropped the catch in a bizarre manner.

At the time of writing, the explosive opening batsman was unbeaten at 23 off 13 balls, with one four and one six, as the match was halted due to bad weather and rain in the city.

Abhishek made the most of the reprieves he got and became the fastest player in history to score 1000 T20I runs as he took just 528 balls to reach the feat. In terms of innings, he is the second-fastest Indian to the milestone, as he took 28 innings, while Virat Kohli sits at the top with 27 innings.

The batters need to give themselves before going after the bowling - Parthiv Patel

Speaking ahead of the start of the play, the former India cricketer Parthiv Patel provided a pitch report and said:

"We are at The Gabba, Brisbane, for the fifth and final T20I. There are some cracks in the middle. It is hard. The new ball fast bowlers will get some help. Even coverage of the grass. The ball will come onto the bat nicely. The batters need to give themselves before going after the bowling. Overall, a good surface for batting."
