Abishek Porel witnessed a lot in the last couple of months. When the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) named Abishek Porel to the list of provisions and the main squad for the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season, there was controversy, as he is accused of rape under the pretext of marriage, confinement, criminal intimidation, and cheating.

On Monday, October 12, when he completed his century for Bengal, Porel celebrated silently. Porel soon went down in tears, pointing the bat towards the pavilion. There were no words, only the flow of emotions through the tears.

After the day ended, Porel said he made the celebration to make a statement, and that the tears were not part of his plan. The keeper-batter made his return in professional cricket after a long gap. After all the legal procedures and mental stress, it was not easy for him to play for a hundred against Delhi.

"I didn’t want to cry; it came automatically," Porel told reporters after Day 2 of Bengal’s 2026–27 season match against Delhi. "My celebration was a statement that I don’t want to say anything. I just want to play cricket. I want to answer everyone through cricket," Abishek Porel said to the reporters in Kalyani.

Abishek Porel tried to get the positives during the custody days

Porel is currently out on bail. He was in custody for days before receiving bail from Chinsurah court. The cricketer spent some days behind bars. It was a whole lotta different world for him. Instead of crawling back into his own shell, with the aim of bouncing back, Porel tried to find positivity. From the days behind the bars, he made up his mind that cricket is the only medium that will allow him to express himself thoroughly.

"I have seen how to survive in a different world, a different universe. I have taken a lot of positive things from there, which has made me mentally tougher. Each day, each minute, each second, the way I spent them constantly reminded me that while batting, I won’t answer with my mouth; I will answer with my bat," Porel added.

Abishek Porel showed his gratitude to Laxmi Ratan Shukla

Porel paid his gratitude to the Bengal cricket team head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla and the other coaching staff of the state for staying by his side. Abishek Porel mentioned that Shukla invested his time personally to help Porel in cricket by making slight changes in his batting.

"I will remain forever grateful in my life for how Laxmi-da helped me and brought me out of that phase. He supported me all the time. Leaving everything behind, I have started a new life through their hands," Porel said.

Currently, Bengal is in control against Delhi. Porel is still at the crease; the other in-form batter, Sudip Kumar Gharami, also scored a century for the team. They will try to get allthe points from this match.
