Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed has shown his true colors after being mocked by the Indian fans on his appreciation post for Virat Kohli on his Instagram handle. Abrar Ahmed shared a collage of a few moments with Virat Kohli from the India-Pakistan match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Praising the Indian batting icon for his humanity, Abrar posted on X: “Bowling to my childhood hero Virat Kohli. Grateful for his appreciation—his greatness as a cricketer is only matched by his humility as a person. A true inspiration on and off the field!”

Abrar Ahmed faces backlash for ‘Fantastic Tea’ jibe at Indian fans

As soon as the post went viral on social media, the comment section was flooded with criticism from the Indian fans for his controversial send-off to Shubman Gill during the India-Pakistan match in Dubai, where the Men in Blue crushed the Men in Green by six wickets last week.

Many fans have felt the Pakistan spinner’s stunt was just to clean his image over his animated celebration after dismissing Shubman Gill in Dubai and gain traction on social media. After facing the wrath of the Indian fans on Instagram, Abrar went a step ahead to mock the Indian fans over Indian Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s case.

Abrar posted a picture of himself dressed in green and white attire with a cup of tea in hand, and he wrote in the caption, “Having the last cup of FANTASTIC evening TEA before Ramadan begins.☕️”

This post sparked fury among the Indian fans as it is linked with Abhinandan Varthaman’s case, and now he has yet again been facing the heat on social media. Notably, Pakistan shot down two Indian fighter jets that had entered its airspace, capturing Abhinandan Varthaman, in response to India’s Balakot airstrike in 2019.

Later, Pakistan released a video on social media, where the Indian commander was seen calmly acknowledging the treatment he received from the Pakistani military and praised the tea he was served by saying, “Tea is fantastic.”

That phrase has since become meme material for Pakistanis. Later, as a gesture of peace, Abhinandan was released and sent back to India on March 1.

Meanwhile, Abrar Ahmed delivered an impressive spell against India, giving away just 28 runs in 10 overs and dismissing Shubman Gill. The Pakistan leg-spinner has so far played 10 Tests, 9 ODIs, and 7 T20Is for Pakistan, and he has 70 international wickets to his name.

Pakistan's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign ends in dismay

Notably, Pakistan's journey in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy 2025 ended early after back-to-back defeats in their first two matches against New Zealand and India. Their final group game against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi was washed out, and they ended their campaign winless.

On the other hand, India has already booked a spot in the semi-finals with dominant wins over Bangladesh and Pakistan. They will play their last group match against New Zealand on March 2 in Dubai. Interestingly, the venue for the Champions Trophy 2025 final depends on India's progress.

If the Men in Blue make it to the final, the final will take place in Dubai. However, if they fall short, Pakistan will host the title clash along with a semifinal.
