India’s star batter Shreyas Iyer has continued to be sidelined from the Indian Test team despite doing a brilliant job in both white-ball cricket and IPL.

From helping Mumbai to win white-ball tournaments and India to lift the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to taking Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 playoffs, Shreyas Iyer has been ticking all the boxes.

Even so, the stylish right-hander impressed in the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy, amassing 480 runs at a solid average of 68.57, which included two centuries in just five matches.

Despite his terrific domestic show, he was not only snubbed from the senior squad for the upcoming Test series but also overlooked by the India A squad, which is set to tour the UK later this month.

There’s no room for Shreyas Iyer in Test cricket: Ajit Agarkar

The 30-year-old, who has already played 14 Tests for India, was last seen in white during the home series against England in February 2024, and now his chances to add to this are very slim as the national selectors made it clear that there is currently no place for him in the Test team.

Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar admitted that Iyer has been doing well recently but confirmed that the current squad combination left no room for him in the red-ball format.

Ajit Agarkar said at the press conference at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, “Shreyas had a good one-day series and played well in domestic as well, but right now there’s no room in Test cricket.”

Here's how fans react to Shreyas Iyer's snub from Test squad for England tour:

PBKS one win away from Top 2 finish in IPL 2025

Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer is preparing for the Delhi Capitals versus Punjab Kings match on Saturday, May 24. Punjab Kings are now in a great position for a top 2 finish in IPL 2025 after both Gujarat Titans and Royal Challengers Bengaluru dropped valuable points in recent matches.

All they need to do now is win their league game against Delhi Capitals in Jaipur. The last time PBKS and DC faced each other in Dharamsala, the match was suspended due to security issues following rising tensions between India and Pakistan. PBKS looked set for a huge total that night, but the game was abandoned, and the tournament was suspended for a week.

Australian Trio joins PBKS squad ahead of DC clash

Since the IPL 2025 resumed on May 17, Delhi Capitals lost to Mumbai Indians, ending their playoff hopes. Now, with PBKS already qualified for the top 4 along with MI, GT, and RCB, Delhi will aim to spoil Punjab’s plans for a top 2 finish on Saturday in Jaipur.

In a major boost for PBKS, the wait is over for the Australian stars as Josh Inglis, Marcus Stoinis, and Aaron Hardie have joined the team and are ready to play against the DC. Kyle Jamieson is also available for selection for the Punjab ahead of the knockouts.

Notably, PBKS has scored more than 200 runs in six of the eight matches where they batted first this season. The only other team to do the same in a single season was KKR back in IPL 2014.
