Abu Dhabi T10 league franchise Bangla Tigers announced South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis as their new captain for the upcoming edition.

In the last season, Bangla Tigers failed to qualify for the playoffs and this time they will rely upon the former South Africa captain’s international experience.

The 37-year-old, who will make his debut in the T10 format, said he is looking forward to joining the Tigers’ squad and play with the likes of Johnson Charles and Andre Fletcher.

“It is an exciting new format to be part of. I am looking forward to joining forces with some of the world’s biggest names in this league and representing team Bangla Tigers,” Du Plessis was quoted as saying, as reported by thenationalnews.com.

“It is going to be a thrilling time for the game of cricket. It’s heart-warming to see leagues like T10 putting in so much hard work and offering such exciting formats for sports enthusiasts. I can’t wait to get going,” he added.

Du Plessis will replace Fletcher, who led the Tigers in the last season and the team’s owner Mohammed Yasin Chowdhury said it is terrific to have a world-class player like Faf leading his side.

“It is terrific to have a world-class player like Faf in our squad. We have all seen his exploits for South Africa in various formats. He is a champion cricketer,” ” Chowdhury said.
