Cricket fans have responded to reports that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to pull out of the upcoming Asia Cup under the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) led by Pakistan. Many called this decision a strategic move by India to isolate the Pakistan team amid recent political tensions.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated further after the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where nearly 28 people were killed and many were injured. This led to debate over whether India should continue participating in any cricket matches involving Pakistan.
India Set to Withdraw from Asia Cup Amid Indo-Pak Tensions - Report
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to withdraw from all Asia Cup engagements, citing concerns over Pakistan's leadership role in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). As per The Indian Express, the BCCI has informed the ACC of its decision to skip upcoming intercontinental events.
The Asian Cricket Council is currently led by Pakistan’s Interior Minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Mohsin Naqvi. Team India’s withdrawal is seen as a strategic response to the growing tensions between the two nations. The Men’s Asia Cup 2025 is set to be played in September this year.
India and Pakistan Last Faced Off in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Dubai
India have not engaged in any bilateral cricket with their arch-rivals since a white-ball series in 2012-13. India and Pakistan have only faced each other during ICC tournaments or multi-nation events.
India last toured Pakistan in 2008 for the Asia Cup. The Indian government and BCCI refused to send the team to Pakistan for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. India played their matches in Dubai, including a clash against Pakistan, which they won by six wickets before clinching the tournament title.
Both cricket boards have agreed to play their future matches at neutral venues only, whether in ICC tournaments or Asia Cup competitions.
Fans React as BCCI Pulls Out of Asia Cup 2025
The BCCI's decision to pull out of ACC tournaments has triggered reactions across social media. Many fans called the move a strategy to isolate Pakistan from international cricket. With India opting out, there is growing speculation that the ACC may be forced to cancel the Asia Cup.
So, the Bcci is all set to withdraw from the upcoming men's Asia Cup. Kind of expected.
