Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa, who is free to represent a state of his choice, has completed a surprise domestic switch ahead of the 2026-27 season. Cricket Australia (CA) approved the veteran cricketer's shift from New South Wales to join the Queensland Bulls for the upcoming domestic season.
The 34-year-old spinner lives near Byron Bay on the New South Wales north coast. The switch to Queensland is a more practical option for training and travel. Notably, the leg-spinner previously spent seven seasons with South Australia, and Queensland will become the third domestic state team of his career.

Queensland Cricket high performance boss Bennett King said that Adam Zampa will strengthen the squad and bring valuable knowledge to a group led by new head coach James Hopes.
"He is a world-class bowler, and his experience and insights will certainly benefit our group. We look forward to assisting him with his goal of continuing to represent Australia with distinction in the future."
Zampa will join Queensland after completing his stint with London Spirit in The Hundred. The 34-year-old becomes one of four Cricket Australia-contracted players in the Bulls squad alongside Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser, and Xavier Bartlett.
However, he is expected to make only limited appearances for Queensland early in the season due to Australia's ODI tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa, followed by the home white-ball series against England.
Adam Zampa Has Been One of Australia's Most Successful White-Ball Bowlers
Queensland secured one of Australia's most experienced limited-overs players through the move, with Adam Zampa expected to play a key role whenever he is available during the domestic season.
Zampa has been one of Australia's leading white-ball bowlers since his international debut in 2016. The leg-spinner has taken 198 wickets in 121 ODIs at an average of 29.34, with the best figures of 5/35. He has also taken 153 wickets in 118 T20Is at an average of 20.35 and an economy rate of 7.36.
Zampa has represented several teams around the world, including Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals, Melbourne Stars, and London Spirit. In the IPL, he has picked up 31 wickets in 22 matches, with career-best figures of 6/19.
Zampa has also accepted that his chances of playing Test cricket are now slim. Earlier this year, he admitted that his red-ball ambitions faded after missing selection for Australia's tour of Sri Lanka. The veteran has played only one first-class match in the past three seasons.
