Former Australia captain Tim Paine joined the Adelaide Strikers franchise as an assistant coach ahead of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season. Adelaide Strikers coach Jason Gillespie was impressed with the signing of Tim Paine for the franchise, saying he has all the skills to be a fantastic coach.

The former Australian wicketkeeper-batter retired from first-class cricket at the end of the last season. The right-handed batter has the experience of leading the Australian National Team in Test cricket. He was named captain of the team after the infamous Sandpaper Gate scandal in South Africa in 2018.

Tim Paine Has All The Skills To Be A Fantastic Coach – Jason Gillespie

Jason Gillespie highlighted Tim Paine‘s experience and that his presence would bring a positive impact on various aspects of the team’s performance.

“Tim has all the skills to be a fantastic coach. The experience he will bring is sure to help our players in all facets of the game and bring more positive elements to the way we play,” Gillespie said in a statement on Friday.

Paine resigned as Australia’s captain following his involvement in a sexting scandal with a former Cricket Tasmania employee. The batter had to step down from his role despite being cleared by a Cricket Australia investigation in 2018.

I’m Really Excited For Him – Adam Voges

Adam Voges expressed excitement about Tim Paine’s coaching career, saying that his presence will contribute experience to the younger players on the team.

“I have had a fair bit to do with Tim over the journey and I’m really excited for him to start to dip his toe into coaching post-career and looking forward to him being around the group,” Voges said.

“To have a former Australian captain in amongst it and to be able to lean on him and for him to provide that experience to a couple of the younger players I think will be great,” he added.

The 38-year-old will also be involved with the Australian U19 and Australia A teams. Both teams are scheduled to compete against their New Zealand A counterparts starting next week. Adam Voges will assume the role of coach for the red-ball segment of the Australia A series.
