Mirwais Ashraf Set To Continue As ACB Chairman For Next Three Years

According to Cricbuzz, the ACB official said that Mirwais Ashraf's tenure as chairman has been extended by the Taliban government.

The official emphasized that stability is crucial for success and added that they try to value it.

"Due to his performance for the last three years, the Taliban government extended Mirwais Ashraf's new term as the chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board for three more years. Look stability is key to our success and we try to value it," said the ACB official.

The ACB official highlighted that the board has maintained consistency with one chairman, one CEO, and one coach over the past three years.

He added that the board changed captains only once during this period. The official also said that they want to avoid frequent changes.

"During the last three years we had one chairman, one CEO, and one coach and we changed our captain only once as we feel that if we want to develop as a cricketing nation we need to put a major focus on stability and don't try to go for chopping and changing," the ACB official added.

Mullah Muhammad Hassan, Afghanistan's Prime Minister, and Patron-in-Chief, has decided to extend Ashraf's tenure as chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board for the next three years.

Ashraf will lead the board until December when elections are scheduled during the Annual General Meeting.

The Patron-in-Chief of Afghanistan is backing Ashraf for another term as chairman. Ashraf is not expected to face any resistance in the upcoming election.

The election will follow the ACB's constitution and international standards, with a transparent voting process during the Annual General Meeting.

Afghanistan Advanced To Semi-Finals In T20 World Cup 2024

The Afghanistan national cricket team has delivered impressive performances during ICC tournaments in recent times.

The Afghanistan team narrowly missed qualification for the semi-finals during the ODI World Cup 2023 in India, where they finished in sixth place in the 10-team points table.

However, the Afghan team advanced to the semi-finals in the T20 World Cup 2024 in the United States of America and the West Indies.

They suffered a loss against South Africa in the knockout match. Afghanistan was bowled out for just 56 runs in the semi-final and failed to advance to the summit clash.
