India fast bowler Mohammed Shami's daughter little Aaira Shami has been targeted by an Islamic cleric for celebrating the festival of Holi. The cleric claimed that Aaira's celebrations were illegal and against the Shariat law.

The claims were made by Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi, who is the president of All India Muslim Jamaat. Razvi is the same person who had recently targeted Mohammed Shami for not following the traditions of Ramzan during the recently concluded Champions Trophy.

During India's Champions Trophy semi-final against Australia, Shami was observed to be drinking water while standing at the boundary. While he was criticized by some people for his acts, he was also praised by some for keeping his country first and focusing on his job.

Mohammed Shami's daughter targeted for playing Holi

In a video that was released on March 15, Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi called the act of playing Holi a crime if Mohammed Shami's daughter is sensible enough. He also claimed that such an act would come against Shariat, which is an Islamic religious law

"She (Aaira Shami) is a small girl If she plays Holi without understanding (it), then it is not a crime. If she is sensible and still plays Holi, then it will be considered against Shariat," Razvi was quoted as saying by India Today.

In the same video, Razvi claims to have previously appealed to Shami and his family members to follow Islamic traditions and avoid celebrating Holi. He even mentioned that celebrating Holi will come under a crime according to the Shariat.

"I have appealed to (Mohammed) Shami and his family members Whatever is not in Shariat, do not let your children do it. Holi is a very big festival for Hindus but Muslims should avoid celebrating Holi. If someone celebrates Holi even after knowing Shariat, it is a crime," he added.

Razvi congratulates India for winning CT 2025

Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi further congratulated India for winning the Champions Trophy title and also mentioned Mohammed Shami's role in it. He also asked Shami to follow Ramzan traditions after the Champions Trophy if he had been unable to fast during the holy month.

"I congratulate Team India's captain, all the players, and Mohammad Shami from the bottom of my heart on their success," he said.

India lifted the Champions Trophy 2025 title by defeating New Zealand in the final on March 9 in Dubai. It was India's second ICC title in two years after they had already won the T20 World Cup 2024 title last year in June.

Mohammed Shami's performance in the Champions Trophy

Shami played a key role in India's Champions Trophy win in the absence of the lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The veteran picked up 9 wickets in five matches at an average of 25.88 with the best of 5-53 against Bangladesh.

The 34-year-old was returning to the national team after a surgery that kept him out of the game for a long time. But he used his experience to great effect and performed admirably well on a pitch that was more suitable for the spinners.
