Ravindra Jadeja, on Sunday (June 30), announced his retirement from T20Is, hours after helping Team India clinch the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

India, on Saturday, beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling final to win the T20 World Cup for the second time and first time since 2007. Batting first, the Men in Blue recovered from 34 for 3 to post 176/7 in the allotted 20 overs thanks to Virat Kohli's 76-run knock. In reply, South Africa finished their innings on 169/8 despite being 151/4 after 16 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja has become the third Indian player to retire from T20Is after the final. Before him, captain Rohit Sharma and his predecessor Virat Kohli announced their retirements from the shortest format of the game as well. Kohli announced his retirement at the post-match presentation ceremony while Rohit announced his decision at the post-match press conference.

Ravindra Jadeja took to Instagram to announce his decision to retire from T20s. The veteran allrounder posted a picture of himself posing with the T20 World Cup trophy and wrote that he always gave his best for the country and would continue to do so in other formats. He also called winning the T20 World Cup as the pinnacle of his T20 career as he wrote: "With a heart full of gratitude, I bid farewell to T20 internationals. Like a steadfast horse galloping with pride, I???ve always given my best for my country and will continue to do so in other formats .

Winning the T20 World Cup was a dream come true, a pinnacle of my T20 International career. Thank you for the memories, the cheers, and the unwavering support," added Ravindra Jadeja.

The recently-concluded tournament was Ravindra Jadeja's sixth T20 World Cup. He made his debut in the T20 World Cup in 2009 and played in the 2010, 2014, 2016, and 2021 editions as well while missing the 2012 and 2022 editions during this period. Overall, he played 30 matches in the T20 World Cup and picked up 22 wickets in addition to scoring 130 runs.

Ravindra Jadeja retires from T20Is after playing 74 T20Is for Team India. The southpaw made his debut in T20Is against Sri Lanka in 2009. In 74 games, he has scored 515 runs with a top score of 46. With the ball, Jadeja picked up 54 wickets in the shortest format of the game.
