Aiden Markram beats GIANTS to win ICC Player of the Month Award for June 2025

South Africa National Cricket Team all-rounder Aiden Markram has been crowned ICC Player of the Month for June 2025 after his match-winning heroics in the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 (WTC Final 2025) against Australia at Lord’s last month.

Markram delivered with the bat when South Africa needed it the most to end their ICC title drought against Australia. The star all-rounder scored a brilliant 136 runs and scalped two crucial wickets to lead South Africa to their first ICC trophy in 27 years.

Aiden Markram said that winning the WTC at Lord’s for South Africa was something he would always cherish. He also credited the team’s combined effort for the historic ICC triumph, especially the key roles played by Kagiso Rabada and Temba Bavuma against Australia at Lord’s.

Aiden Markram was quoted as saying by ICC on winning the honor, “It is a privilege to receive this award. To contribute to an ICC World Test Championship win for our team and South Africa is something that means a lot to me.”

He added, “Winning the final at Lord's is a historic moment for South African cricket, and it is something we will all remember forever. This victory was only possible due to the combined efforts of the entire team, with crucial contributions from KG and Tembs.”

South Africa to face Zimbabwe in the T20 Tri-Series opener in Harare

Meanwhile, the South Africa cricket team is currently gearing up to face Zimbabwe in the first T20I game of the Tri-Nation series involving New Zealand as well. The much-awaited T20 tri-series between Zimbabwe, South Africa, and New Zealand will get underway on July 14 in Harare.

The teams are using this T20 tri-series to prepare for the next year’s ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Sikandar Raza returns to lead Zimbabwe after missing the Test series due to his MLC commitments. Zimbabwe will also have their key players like Blessing Muzarabani, Brian Bennett, and Ryan Burl to help the team get off to a strong start in the T20 tri-series.

Rassie van der Dussen to lead South Africa in the T20 Tri-Series

On the other side, South Africa is entering the T20 tri-series with a fresh-looking squad, featuring only four players from their last T20I series. Rassie van der Dussen will lead the Proteas side, and explosive youngsters like Dewald Brevis and Lhuan-dre Pretorius will provide fresh fire to the batting order. Gerald Coetzee, Corbin Bosch, and Kwena Maphaka will lead the bowling attack in the T20 tri-series.

Speaking about the pitch, the Harare Sports Club is set to host the opening match of the tri-series. The ground has seen the highest total of 234 and even 194 successfully chased down at the venue. As this is the first match of the series, the pitch is expected to be fresh and balanced, with 170 likely to be a competitive score. Teams winning the toss may choose to bowl first and take advantage of early conditions.
