Aiden Markram was left extremely angry by Rishabh Pant after a shocking mix-up between the two batters during the IPL 2026 clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday (May 10).
Lucknow Super Giants are already out of the IPL 2026 playoffs race, but they have the chance to spoil Chennai Super Kings’ part in Chennai. Even LSG got the great start, and Markram along with Pant was trying to build the momentum after another batting collapse this season.

But Rishabh Pant’s quick judgment could have cost Aiden Markram his wicket. The tense moment unfolded during Lucknow Super Giants’ innings when Jamie Overton bowled a short delivery to Rishabh Pant in the 10th over at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The left-handed batter played the ball towards square leg and instantly called his batting partner Aiden Markram for the second run. The Lucknow Super Giants skipper went for the second run almost immediately without a proper signal to the Proteas star Aiden Markram.
In a big chance for the Chennai Super Kings, there was a complete misunderstanding between the two batters. Markram was left stranded halfway down the pitch because there was no proper backing up from the non-striker’s end.

For a few seconds, it looked like Aiden Markram would be run out. The South African batter was completely in shock, as Pant had already started running for the second run without proper communication. The CSK fielders quickly acted, and the LSG batters were in panic.
Markram had almost given up hope while trying to return safely to the crease. Luckily for the Lucknow Super Giants and the South African batter, CSK’s throw missed the stumps, and they survived the dangerous moment.

They completed the second run, but Markram looked visibly angry and frustrated with Pant because the risky call could have easily cost him his wicket in Chennai.

Rishabh Pant’s nightmare continues in IPL 2026
Right after the horrible mix-up, Jamie Overton gave a massive breakthrough to Chennai Super Kings by dismissing Rishabh Pant on the next delivery. Overton bowled a short-of-length delivery that moved slightly across the LSG captain.
Pant stayed deep inside his crease and tried to guide the ball softly towards the off side while playing very close to his body. But the ball took a thin inside edge from Pant’s bat and crashed directly onto the stumps. Pant was completely stunned by the angle and movement of the delivery.
He went back to the pavilion after scoring 15 runs from 12 balls, putting pressure on the rest of the LSG batting lineup in the ongoing IPL 2026 clash against CSK. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter has been struggling to find his form this season as well after a dismal campaign last season.
Pant has managed only 260+ runs while leading the Lucknow franchise in the ongoing IPL 2026. He has already lost his place in India’s T20I and ODI teams, and now his IPL numbers put him under immense pressure as other wicketkeeping options like Dhruv Jurel are doing well and can be considered for the Test team by the national selectors.
