Double trouble for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain, Ajinkya Rahane. The team remained winless after 5 matches in the IPL 2026 season. Additionally, he will have to pay a penalty to the board for breaching IPL’s code of conduct.

On the early morning of April 15 it is reported that the KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane will have to INR 12 lakh for breaching the rule during the Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders (CSK vs KKR) match on April 14 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk, where KKR secured their 4th defeat of the season and remains at the bottom most position of the points table.

Ajinkya Rahane will have to pay INR 12 lakh to the board

Rahane was fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match. As it was the team’s first offence in the ongoing season, under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences.

Under this rule, the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Ajinkya Rahane, will have to pay INR 12 lakh as a penalty. In the future, if they repeat the same mistake, the penalty amount will be increased gradually.

IPL issued an official statement

“Kolkata Knight Riders Captain Ajinkya Rahane has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 22 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 against Chennai Super Kings at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai,” IPL informed in an official release.

“As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Rahane was fined INR 12 lakhs,” it further reads.

Shreyas Iyer has broken the rule twice in his season

Rahane has become the fourth player of the season to be charged for a slow over-rate offence. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain, Shreyas Iyer, is the first to enroll his name in the list. So far, Iyer has been penalized twice for a slow over-rate. For the first time offence, he had to pay INR 12 lakh as a penalty, and for the second time, as his team repeated the same under his leadership, the amount of penalty was increased to INR 24 lakh. PBKS failed to maintain the over rates during the match against the Gujarat Titans in New Chandigarh on March 31 and against CSK on April 2.

Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill and the CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad were the other two captains after Iyer, who had to pay penalties because of maintaining slow over rates. Gill’s GT was found guilty against Delhi Capitals on April 8, and Gaikwad’s CSK was charged with the same offence during their game against Delhi last week.

For the first time in the league. The Kolkata Knight Riders recorded a winless streak after 5 games. In those 5 matches, they have 4 defeats and one washed-out fixture. Because of the washed-out game against the PBKS, they have 1 point aside.
