Ajinkya Rahane OUT of upcoming IPL 2025 matches? KKR captain drops big injury update

Ajinkya Rahane's Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) took on Axar Patel's Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 48th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Tuesday, April 29.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the IPL 2025 match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 14 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Not bad. I will be okay - Ajinkya Rahane on his injured finger

After being invited to bat first in the match, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 204/9 on the board, riding on good batting performances from Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rinku Singh, Sunil Narine, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Ajinkya Rahane.

Defending the total, Sunil Narine (3), Varun Chakravarthy (2), Andre Russell (1), Vaibhav Arora (1), and Ankul Roy (1) chipped in with wickets and restricted Delhi Capitals to 190/9.

During the post-match presentation ceremony, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane was asked about the hand/finger injury he picked up in the second innings, to which he responded by saying that he was okay and nothing was serious. He said:

"(on his injured hand) Not bad. I will be okay. I will be fine. (turning point of the game) After 13 overs, those two overs from Sunil. When he picked those wickets, that was the game for us. 204 on that wicket was good, but frankly I felt we were 15 runs short. Russell one over in between and good support from Anukul and Varun."

While talking about bringing in Anukul Roy to the playing XI, Ajinkya Rahane said that the spinner has been working hard on his game. Ajinkya Rahane said:

"(on Anukul) History at this ground, left-arm spinners have always done well, he has been working hard, but one game at a time, we don't want to think too far ahead. That's always been the talk, when we were not doing well. Take confidence from this game and move forward."

In the end, Ajinkya Rahane showered rich praise on Sunil Narine and labeled him as a champion bowler. He elaborated:

"(on Narine) He has been a champion bowler for this franchise, he has done well on many occasions. So good to have him and Varun, I can go back to him when we are in trouble. Coming early to the practice session, bowling hours and hours in the nets, also working on his batting. Dre also working hard on his bowling, he has been bowling good yorkers in the nets. As a team, we can back him. He has been fantastic, whenever he has bowled in this season, he has picked wickets."

How did KKR perform in the previous IPL match against DC?

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) delivered a dominant performance to beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by seven wickets in their previous IPL encounter at Eden Gardens on April 29, 2024.

After DC chose to bat, KKR bowlers got early breakthroughs, with Mitchell Starc and Vaibhav Arora removing both DC openers inside the first four overs.

Then spinners took charge as Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine dismantled DC's middle order. Pacer Harshit Rana also made a good contribution with two wickets as KKR restricted DC to a meager 153/9.

Chasing a modest total of 154, KKR’s openers, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine, played an attacking brand of cricket from the word go to build a solid opening stand of 79 runs.

Phil Salt, in particular, was dominant as he slammed 68 off 33 balls, while Sunil Narine chipped in with 15 off 10 balls. KKR then lost openers as well as Rinku Singh in quick succession, but they didn't have any trouble chasing the target.

Shreyas Iyer (33*) and Venkatesh Iyer (26*) joined forces and batted very well to finish off the run-chase in 16.3 overs with 21 balls to spare.
