The long-awaited review meeting involving the top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Men's national team selectors was held without the presence of the chief selector, Ajit Agarkar.
Agarkar was supposed to be present in the meeting, but according to the latest reports, the head of the selection committee did not attend the crucial meeting. According to the latest reports, Ajit Agarkar was not available for the meeting.
Ajit Agarkar skips BCCI's review meeting for personal reasons
If the claims are to be believed, then he missed the meeting because of his personal commitments. Though, the exact reasons for which Agarkar, a former India National Cricket Team all-rounder, did not attend remain undisclosed.
On September 3, Amol Karhadkar, a The Hindu sports journalist, through his 'X' post,t informed about the absence of the former cricketer in the meeting. The meeting was important for the Indian cricket team ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman are also expected to take crucial roles in the meeting
The review meeting of the board created a significant amount of buzz on social media platforms. As per previously published multiple reports, Ajit Agarkar and the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, were supposed to take crucial roles in the meeting as both of them are directly involved with the team. Head of BCCI's Center of Excellence (CoE) VVS Laxman could also take an important role in the meeting.
The meeting was arranged keeping an eye on the upcoming ODI World Cup, which will be in 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, where the batters are expected to face challenges from the fast bowlers. Before that, the Indian batters sustained disappointing outings during their matches against England and Ireland, where the bowlers got assistance from the surfaces across the venues.
Additionally, the growing fitness concerns around the players also became a headache for BCCI and the team management. Ahead of India's series against Afghanistan and New Zealand, there are multiple first-team players who are still uncertain to make their comebacks for the Indian cricket team because of ongoing injury reasons.
Players' fitness remains a topic for discussion
A BCCI source informed the news agency PTI that the injury of Jasprit Bumrah emerged as one of the talking points among the board officials, as without Bumrah, the team in Colombo for the second Test match against Sri Lanka looked less effective.
"The selection committee chief was informally intimated before the Sri Lanka Tests that Jasprit Bumrah would be fit for at least one, if not two, Tests. In fact, he had written a mail to COE seeking more clarity on Bumrah’s absence.
“His (Bumrah’s) absence was felt in the second Test, where Siraj looked distinctly off-colour on a placid track. Ditto for Hardik Pandya, who hasn’t played anything post-IPL and is important as far as the ODI World Cup is concerned,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
