One of the two youngest IPL teams, Gujarat Titans (GT), has made a name for itself as a team that picks a player based on what he can bring to the table rather than the brand value of the player. This article sheds light on all the IPL Captains of GT.
All IPL Captains of Gujarat Titans (GT)
Hardik Pandya (2022-2023)
Hadik Pandya led the Gujarat Titans in their first IPL season in 2022 and guided them to their maiden IPL title as well as a feat that hasn't been achieved by many players in the past.
Having said that, the decision to appoint Hardik Pandya as the captain of the team raised a few eyebrows as it was being said that this move might backfire, with Hardik having no captaincy experience in the past.
But the all-rounder who had a history of injuries and was returning from one had other plans. Pandya contributed with both bat and ball and was proactive in the field as the captain of the Titans.
The fast bowling all-rounder delivered when it mattered the most, i.e., in the final, that too with the ball by picking up three wickets in the all-important game to break the back of RR's batting lineup.
Hardik continued his good work in the next season as well, and GT almost became only the third team to defend their title, only to lose on the last ball of the match after Jadeja hit Mohit Sharma for two boundaries.
Hardik had an impressive stint with the Gujarat Titans as the captain, with 22 wins and 9 losses in 31 matches.
Rashid Khan (2022-2023)
Experienced Afghan spinner Rashid Khan also led the Gujarat Titans in their debut season.
Rashid has been at the helm of GT's affairs as the captain of the team in a couple of matches in 2022 and 2023, and the Titans were able to clinch a win in one of those games.
The win in question came against the Chennai Super Kings in a hard-fought encounter in Pune, where GT clinched a memorable win after losing early wickets in a tricky chase.
Shubman Gill (2024-2025)
The 2024 IPL edition was full of drama for the former champions, not on the field but off it, which started with Hardik Pandya's decision to move to his first IPL team Mumbai Indians.
Hardik's unavailability meant that Gujarat had to rejig their combination, which included finding a new captain to lead the team, and that's how Shubman, the captain, came into the picture.
However, the shuffling of the combination was visible on the performance of the team that year as they finished at the bottom of the points table and failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time in three years.
Having said that, come 2025, things changed for the Shubman Gill-led side as GT once again qualified for the playoffs.
As far as Shubman's captaincy record is concerned, the Indian Test captain has led GT in 27 matches and has won 14 games so far.
