All-rounder Jayant Yadav Signs For Warwickshire For Remainder Of County Season

Indian bowling all-rounder Jayant Yadav has signed for Warwickshire County Cricket Club for the remainder of the County Championship season. He will join fellow India teammate Mohammed Siraj in the club at Edgbaston for the remaining three matches. Warwick nex play a home game against Somerset in the upcoming week, slated to start from September 12.

Yadav revealed that signing for Warwickshire was something he could not say no to. He opined that these three games in the English County Championship would give him exposure and improve his game making him privy to more opportunities in the future.

The 32-year-old was quoted as saying, “This will be my first County Championship experience and I’m incredibly excited to join up with the squad for the final three games. When I was asked if I would like to join Warwickshire it was something I couldn’t say no to.”

Jayant Yadav Becomes eighth Indian cricketer to feature in English domestic cricket this calendar year

Jayant will be the eighth Indian player to feature in English domestic cricket this year, and the third signed by Warwickshire, after Siraj and Krunal Pandya, who played five Royal London One-Day Cup matches before a groin injury ended his stint.

The other Indian plying their trade are Cheteshwar Pujara (Sussex), Washington Sundar (Lancashire), Umesh Yadav (Middlesex), Navdeep Saini (Kent) and Shubman Gill (Glamorgan).

“I have never played at Edgbaston, but I have heard great things about the stadium and it will be a privilege to call it my home. I would like to extend my gratitude to both Warwickshire County Cricket Club and BCCI for helping to make this happen and I look forward to arriving next week,” the Jayant added.

Warwick Director lauds Jayant’s addition to the squad

The right-arm spinner will provide an experienced option to the side. Yadav has registered 173 wickets and scored 2,194 runs in 64 first-class matches till date. In six Tests he has played so far, Yadav has taken 16 wickets in addition to amassing 248 runs.
Yadav is also the first Indian to score a Test century batting at number nine, whilst his eighth-wicket partnership of 241 with Virat Kohli against England in 2016 is still an Indian record and the seventh highest of all-time.

Paul Farbrace, Director of Cricket said, “Jayant is another fantastic addition to the squad, and we’re excited to welcome him to Warwickshire. Jayant has played Test cricket this year and adding his First-Class experience to our bowling attack could be vital in the final three games.
