India’s historic victory in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final was a dream come true for millions of fans, and every player had a special role in making it happen. Smriti Mandhana’s consistency, Harmanpreet Kaur’s leadership, Deepti Sharma’s all-round brilliance, and Pratika Rawal’s fearless batting powered India Women to their first-ever World Cup title.
But one of the most emotional and inspiring stories came from Amanjot Kaur right after India’s memorable 52-run win over South Africa in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 final in Navi Mumbai. Kaur gave her everything on the field before suffering a heartbreak on November 2.

That moment played a key role in India’s 52-run win over South Africa and maiden World Cup title triumph, and that too in front of the home crowd. The 25-year-old all-rounder was impressive for India throughout the tournament, scoring 146 runs and taking six crucial wickets.
Unfortunately, Amanjot’s grandmother, who had been her biggest supporter right from the start and cheered for her constantly, had suffered a heart attack and had to be hospitalized during the tournament. But Amanjot’s family kept the news away from her until after the final on Sunday.
The World Cup win has surely come as a balm for us: Amanjot Kaur's father
The cricketer’s family made regular visits to the hospital, but they didn’t tell Amanjot about it, as they didn’t want her to worry or lose focus during such an important tournament. Unaware of the situation at home, Amanjot played with full dedication and helped India lift their maiden title.
Amanjot's father, Bhupinder Singh, was quoted as saying by The Indian Express, “My mother, Bhagwanti, has been Amanjot’s pillar of strength since the day she started playing cricket outside on the street and in the park at our Phase 5 residence in Mohali. While I would be at my carpentry shop at Balongi, she would make sure to sit outside the home or at the park to oversee Amanjot playing with the boys as well as other girls.”

He further added, “After she suffered a heart attack last month, we did not tell Amanjot about it, and the last few days have seen us spending time in hospitals for her treatment. The World Cup win has surely come as a balm in these tense times for us.”

Meanwhile, moments after India’s World Cup victory, Amanjot Kaur opened up about her emotions, recalling the tense moment when she took the crucial catch to dismiss Laura Wolvaardt. She had fumbled twice before finally holding on to the ball.
Overwhelmed with joy, Amanjot expressed how special the moment was for her and the entire team as the crowd erupted in celebration. Kaur said, “I don't have the words to express it. This means a lot; you can see the crowd cheering all around. We have created history. This is just the start; Indian cricket is going to be at the next level.”
She dedicated the win to her family and coaches, saying her family could not join her in Mumbai as her grandmother is not well. Amanjot further noted, “We are going to dominate all over the world in every format. Congrats to everyone around here, my family, and my coaches. Everyone has a family here. Everyone is sitting at home and watching because my grandma is not well.”
