Ambati Rayudu goes insane; targets Virat Kohli for winning Orange Cap in IPL 2024

Former Indian batter-turned-commentator Ambati Rayudu took a sly dig at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli during the post-match festivities after the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were crowned the champions of the IPL 2024.

On Sunday, May 26, in a one-sided affair at the packed MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) crushed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by eight wickets with 57 balls to spare and won the IPL 2024 trophy, ending their one-decade-long drought.

It was all possible because of the collective and all-round efforts from each and every member of the KKR team, and that’s something Rayudu mentioned while indirectly targeting the much-hyped RCB team for their IPL trophy drought despite having some of the world’s best players on their teams.

Virat Kohli was on fire with the bat in the IPL 2024

Kohli has been the pillar of RCB’s batting line-up over the years, and the IPL 2024 was no different, as the dashing right-hander single-handedly took the franchise to most of the wins this season through his outstanding batting performance. RCB skipper Faf du Plessis had a consistent season, while Glenn Maxwell badly failed as an all-rounder in the IPL 2024.

Although Rajat Patidar also made some valuable contributions to the RCB’s IPL 2024 playoff qualification, it was only the former Indian skipper who was consistently scoring the runs for the team. And then RCB’s strong spin-lack bowling attack let them down the most in the recently concluded IPL 2024, with most of the pacers leaking a lot of runs.

However, the RCB made a late fightback in the tournament and qualified for the playoffs, but then once again, Kohli could not score big, and the entire batting line-up failed to take the team to the big total in the eliminator against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), losing the game by four wickets to end their journey in the IPL 2024.

Highlighting RCB’s struggle in the IPL 2024 due to not having the collective contribution from the players, Rayudu said that one player can’t win the big prize for the team, citing how KKR put up strong performances altogether to win the trophy for the third time.

Kohli won the Orang Cap Trophy for being the leading run scorer in the IPL 2024. The former RCB skipper scored 741 runs in 15 innings at an impressive average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.70. Rayudu suggested that achievements like Kohli's Orange Cap win are praiseworthy, but it's the combined team effort that ultimately wins the trophy for the team.

The commentator also mentioned that players like Sunil Narine, Andres Russell, Harshit Rana, and Mitchell Starc’s contribution was immense in the KKR’s IPL 2024 triumph. He said that KKR’s every player was standout, and that’s why the Men in Purple and Gold won the tournament.

Ambati Rayudu said during the post-match interview: “…Over the years, it is not the orange cap that wins you the titles but contributions like 300 runs each or 400 runs each.” Now, the clip of Rayudu taking a dig at RCB and Kohli is going viral on social media.
