West Indies batters Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase created history by recording the highest sixth-wicket partnership in Test cricket. Jangoo and Chase added a record 401 runs against Sri Lanka in the first Test at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, putting the hosts in complete control of the match.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for 308 runs in the first innings after opting to bat. The West Indies replied with a massive total of 626/9 declared, after the record-breaking stand between Jangoo and Chase, taking a 318-run lead. Sri Lanka then reached 15/1 at stumps on Day 3, still trailing by 303 runs in Antigua.

Amir Jangoo and Roston Chase joined at the crease when West Indies were struggling at 168/5 and still trailing Sri Lanka's first-innings total. The pair batted for nearly five sessions and added a record 401 runs from 602 balls for the sixth wicket.

Their partnership broke the previous sixth-wicket Test record of 399 runs, set by England's Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow against South Africa at Cape Town in 2016. Jangoo and Chase also became the first pair in 149 years of Test cricket to add 400 runs for the sixth wicket or lower.

The stand is now the second-highest partnership for any wicket in West Indies Test history. It is behind only the 446-run partnership between Garfield Sobers and Conrad Hunte against Pakistan at Kingston in 1958.

He recorded the highest individual score by a West Indies batter in the World Test Championship. Captain Roston Chase provided excellent support with 194 off 324 balls, including 13 fours and two sixes, as the pair stitched together their record-breaking partnership.

After the day's play, Jangoo said that he was delighted with his innings but remained focused on helping West Indies win the Test. The batter also said that he was ready to contribute in the field on the fourth day.

"Can't have a better day. Grateful but we have a Test match to win. Got a good wicket of Nissanka. Unfortunately, we could have had another one but I let go of a half chance. They are a man down we know. I will spend most of the time tomorrow on the field and hopefully take some catches," Jangoo said.
