Amit Mishra leaks inside details of KL Rahul's 'LSG future,' calls Shubman Gill a clueless captain

The way things have panned out in recent times, it is very clear that Shubman Gill is seen as a future captain material by the national selectors.

The right-handed batsman was given the responsibility to lead the youthful Indian team during the recently concluded five-match T20I series. Shubman Gill went on to enjoy a good debut series as a captain as he led India to a 4-1 series win. India started the series with a loss but bounced back with four wins on the trot.

Shubman Gill also led the team from the very front as he finished the series as the highest run-scorer. In 5 games, the right-handed batsman scored 170 runs with the help of two half-centuries. While Shubman Gill is still new to captaincy and has started his journey with a fine series win, former India spinner Amit Mishra believes the youngster is not captaincy material.

Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra podcast, the former leg-spinner said that Shubman Gill should not be made captain. When the host of the show asked him the reason, Amit Mishra stated that he watched the opening batsman's captaincy from close quarters during the IPL and was not impressed.

"I don't think he should be made captain," said Amit Mishra.

"I have seen him in the IPL, and he doesn't know how to lead. He has no idea about captaincy. And before this, he hasn't captained much. Why was he made the captain then? You'd have to ask those who made the decision," he added.

Before leading India, Shubman Gill led Gujarat Titans as well in this year's IPL but failed to impress. After winning the tournament in 2022 and finishing runners-up last year, the Titans could not even qualify for the playoffs in IPL. They finished at the 8th spot with 5 wins and 7 defeats.

Amit Mishra on LSG and KL Rahul:

During the same interview, Amit Mishra was also asked whether KL Rahul would retain his Lucknow Super Giants captaincy. The host said that the franchise has different options such as Nicholas Pooran who is doing well in T20 leagues around the world while also highlighting that Rahul is not even in the Indian T20I team.

In reply, Amit Mishra indirectly took a dig at Rahul by saying that a player who plays for the team should be the captain. He also stated that Lucknow Super Giants will be looking for a better captain ahead of the next IPL season.

"It doesn't matter to me whether he is in the team or not, but the one who thinks well for the team should be the captain. The one who plays for the team, who performs for the team, should be the captain, whether it's Rahul, Ruturaj, or KL Rahul. They will definitely look for a better captain 100 percent," said Amit Mishra.
