They Deserve Every Bit of This Moment - Amol Muzumdar

Amol Muzumdar could not control his emotions after India clinched their first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup crown, calling the achievement a defining chapter for the sport in the country.

The former batter expressed immense pride in the group, noting that their determination and belief had made the nation proud. Muzumdar said that the team became unstoppable after learning from their close defeats.

“I’m speechless. Absolutely proud. They deserve every bit of this moment. The hard work, the belief — they’ve made every Indian proud,” Muzumdar was quoted as saying after the match.

“We never let early setbacks define us. We dominated most matches but just needed to finish better. Once we did that, there was no looking back,” he added.

It’s a Watershed Moment - Amol Muzumdar

Muzumdar has prioritized fitness and fielding since taking over. He noted that the intensity on display in the final was proof of how far the squad had evolved. Muzumdar described the victory as a transformative milestone for women’s cricket.

“That was something we talked about a lot in the dressing room. The energy in the field today showed how much they’ve grown. I couldn’t have asked for more,” Muzumdar said.

“It’s a watershed moment. The ripple effects will be felt for generations,” he said softly.

India set a competitive total after being asked to bat. Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana, Deepti Sharma, and Richa Ghosh pushed the score to 298, giving the hosts a strong platform in the final.

Laura Wolvaardt scored a hundred, but the rest of the batters failed to deliver. Deepti Sharma took a five-wicket haul, and the contest concluded with Harmanpreet Kaur sealing the win with the final catch. India joined Australia, England, and New Zealand as champions of the tournament.
