Andre Russell, on Sunday (May 4), showed that he still has a lot to offer with the bat on the cricket field. The West Indies allrounder scored a whirlwind century against the Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens and helped the Kolkata Knight Riders win the game by 1 run.
Even though Andre Russell had struggled with the bat in the previous games, the KKR team management decided to send him to bat in the 13th over against the Rajasthan Royals. It looked like the decision would backfire as the KKR veteran was struggling against the Royals' spinners.
Russell back to his brilliant best vs Rajasthan Royals
He managed only 2 runs from the first 9 balls he faced before he found his rhythm when Akash Madhwal was introduced into the attack. He hit the pacer for two fours and a six on consecutive deliveries, and there was no looking back after that.
Russell went on to complete a blazing fifty off just 22 balls. He eventually remained unbeaten on 57 runs off 25 balls. The right-handed batsman smashed 4 fours and 6 sixes during his knock. Thanks to his knock, KKR posted 206/4 and went on to win the match by 1 run.
Andre Russell receives an offer from Sourav Ganguly:
Andre Russell not only helped KKR win the game with his whirlwind knock but also received a contract from former India skipper Sourav Ganguly to play in the SA20. The former cricketer is associated with the Delhi franchise, owned by the JSW Group.
They also own Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 and Ganguly wants Russell to ply his trade for the team in the upcoming season. According to a report in Bengali daily 'Anandabazar', Ganguly met Russell on the field immediately after the game ended.
Russell will have no legal objections
Ganguly congratulated Andre Russell on his knock before offering him the proposal to play in SA20. The report further stated that Russell accepted the proposal and is likely to ply his trade for Pretoria Capitals in the SA20.
While KKR have a team in other leagues such as the Caribbean Premier League and International League T20, they do not own any team in SA20.
As a result, Andre Russell is unlikely to face any issue in playing for the Capitals in SA20. Russell plays for the Knight Riders franchise not only in IPL but also in the CPL as well as International League T20.
