Former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff won't be part of the National team's coaching staff for the upcoming white-ball series against Australia National Cricket Team. A report in the Telegraph claims that the ECB plans to give stand-in white-ball coach Marcus Trescothick full charge of the team.

Andrew Flintoff has been with the white-ball squad of the England National Cricket Team since last year. He even served as an assistant coach of the team in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024, which took place in the United States of America and the Caribbean in June.

England National Cricket Team didn't have a great campaign in the T20 World Cup 2024. India National Cricket Team thrashed the defending champions in the semi-final. The defending champions also struggled in the league stage, losing to Australia and nearly being defeated by Scotland.

Andrew Flintoff however won't be part of the three-match T20I series and the five-match ODI series against the Australia National Cricket Team. The former England National Cricket Team player will be embarking on a new stage in his coaching career.

Flintoff has been working on a short-term basis with the England National Cricket Team. He hasn't had a full-time contract with the team. He also took on his first head coaching role in the game with the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred 2024.

Under him, Northern Superchargers had a decent season. They won five games and lost only two but missed out on a spot in the playoffs stage. It was also learned that he didn't share a great relationship with white-ball captain Jos Buttler during the T20 World Cup in June.

Since the last year, Andrew Flintoff has been putting in hard yards in the coaching. He performed scouting work for England last year, working with age-group sides before beginning to work as a consultant for the white-ball national team since September.

Cricket has given me so much - Andrew Flintoff

Andrew Flintoff, who is not considered a candidate for the role of white-ball head coach, recently spoke about his love for the game. He said that he is lucky to be coaching the teams having played the game for a while. He had said:

"Cricket has given me so much. It’s all I ever wanted to do as a kid and I got the opportunity to live my dream. I feel really lucky to be back here and I want the lads to cherish playing. When you finish playing, you look back and it passes so quickly, but you just take time when you’re out there, just to have a look around and take it in and live in the moment.

"And that’s what I’m doing these days. It’s living in the moment and enjoying it. And that’s something I want the players to do, and the teams that play under me to do as well," he concluded.
