McDonald was named interim head coach of the Australian team after Justin Langer resigned from the post on February 5 as the latter wasn’t satisfied with the renewal contract of Cricket Australia. McDonald’s first assignment was the T20I series against Sri Lanka at home, which the Aussies dominated with a 4-1 victory.
