Angkrish Raghuvanshi is all set to return to professional cricket after missing out for several months because of an injury. The 22-year-old keeper-batter sustained a finger injury during the IPL 2026 season and missed the last few matches of the season with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Since IPL 2026, Angkrish Raghuvanshi has remained out of action.
Ahead of the Dr (Capt) K Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy 2026-27, Mumbai named the emerging cricketer in their squad. As he has been named in the team, Raghuvanshi is expected to make his return in competitive cricket through this tournament.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi is declared fit; Ayush Mhatre is still recovering
The return of Angkrish Raghuvanshi will be crucial for the Mumbai cricket team as he is among the most effective emerging players in the recent past. Additionally, the injury to Ayush Mhatre also affected the squad strength.
Like Raghuvanshi, Ayush Mhatre also injured himself during the previous session of the Indian Premier League. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter, who was looking promising for the Yellow brigade, picked up a hamstring injury, from which he is yet to recover.
The Mumbai selectors have announced the squad without Mhatre. In the absence of Mhatre, who was the skipper of the India Under-19 team, the selectors have named Suven Parkar as the leader of the team for the upcoming tournament, which will be played in Pondicherry from August 28 to September 11.
"Angkrish is fit now. Ayush’s injury will take some more time to heal," Mumbai’s chief selector Rajesh Pawar informed Times of India on Friday.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi tallied over 300 runs in back-to-back seasons for the Kolkata Knight Riders
For the last couple of seasons, Angkrish Raghuvanshi was one of the most consistent batters for the Kolkata Knight Riders, securing over 300 runs in IPL 2025 and IPL 2026 seasons. In 2026, the teenager emerged as the highest run scorer for the Kolkata-based franchise with 422 runs in 13 matches, hitting five half-centuries with a strike rate of 146.52.
For the Mumbai cricket team in the tournament in Pondicherry, where a pack of next-gen players will be in action, unlikely to keep wicket as the squad already has two wicketkeepers in Aakash Anand and Hardik Tamore.
Suryansh Shedge is another star player in the team, who recently made his Team India debut in the T20I format during the tour to the United Kingdom.
A couple of other interesting additions in the Mumbai cricket team
Promising pacers, the 16-year-old Karthik Kumar and Onkar Tarmale have provided the team a more dynamic look and strength in their bowling line-up.
Onkar Tarmale was a member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad in IPL 2026 and recently toured England in June-July with the MCA President’s XI. For the first time in his career, the promising seamer has been picked for the main team of Mumbai.
