Left-arm fast bowler Arjun Tendulkar, who is also the son of the God of Indian cricket Sachin Tendulkar, has been named in Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy squad. Prithvi Shaw has been backed as the captain of the side by chief selector Salil Ankola. Shaw had led the Indian team to victory in the U19 World Cup in 2018 and also took them to the Vijay Hazare Trophy title last season. But this will be the first time where he will lead Mumbai in red-ball cricket.

All eyes will be on how Arjun Tendulkar takes to red-ball cricket after he had made his debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year. He had played just two games and had returned figures of 1/34 and 1/33 in those two outings. He also had received an IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians but didn’t play even a single game.

Star opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal also makes it to the squad after having a fantastic IPL 2021 season. His confidence will be high after being retained by the Rajasthan Royals. All-rounder Shivam Dube, wicketkeeper Aditya Tare and fast bowler Dhawal Kulkarni are some of the experienced names in the line-up.

Mumbai will begin their Ranji Trophy season in Elite Group C with an encounter against Maharashtra on January 13.
