With Mohammed Shami out of the Indian selectors’ radar, Arshdeep Singh and Anshul Kamboj are highly likely to be picked in India’s Test squad for the upcoming five-match Test series in England. BCCI will announce the Test squad for the England tour on Saturday, May 24, and Shami is set to be axed.
As reported by the Indian Express, the Indian National Cricket Team may head to England without one of its most experienced fast bowlers, Mohammed Shami. The Bengal pacer, who is known for his match-winning spells, is reportedly not fit enough after his recent ankle surgery.
Mohammed Shami set to miss England tour, Arshdeep Singh and Anshul Kamboj in line for Test debut
The BCCI medical team has reportedly told the national selectors that Shami may not be ready to handle the pressure of long bowling spells in English conditions. With five tough Test matches scheduled in England, the selectors are now unsure about selecting Shami for the series.

And then, Jasprit Bumrah might be rested for a couple of matches to manage his workload on the upcoming England tour, which means the Indian cricket team needs such fast bowlers who are fully fit and can play all five games as well as bowl longer spells if needed.
Shami’s poor form in the IPL 2025 has only made things worse. Playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, the senior Indian pacer has scalped just six wickets in nine matches and gave away runs at a shocking economy rate of 11.23. His IPL 2025 performance raised serious concerns about his form.
Arshdeep Singh likely to replace Mohammed Shami in India's Test team
With Mohammed Shami likely to miss the upcoming England Test tour due to fitness issues, the race to fill his spot is heating up as the selectors are now looking at younger and fitter pacers who can step up in his place, and two exciting names have already come into the spotlight.
The Indian Express suggested that Punjab’s left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh and Haryana's right-arm seamer Anshul Kamboj are in consideration for the England tour.
Arshdeep Singh, known for his ability to swing the ball, movement, and accuracy, is reportedly a sure shot to make his Test debut on the upcoming England tour. Arshdeep’s County Championship experience with Kent, where he gained valuable experience in English conditions, will work in his favor when the selectors sit down to finalize the squad.

The left arm has so far played 21 first-class matches and scalped 66 wickets at an impressive average of 30.37 and an economy rate of 3.20. He could be a lethal weapon for India in England.
Anshul Kamboj set to be rewarded for his consistent domestic showing
On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings pacer Anshul Kamboj has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket. With 74 wickets in just 22 first-class matches, the right-arm pacer has shown promise and consistency with the ball.
Anshul Kamboj has already been named in the India A squad for the England tour, and he's already on the selectors' radar for promotion on the tour. Kamboj could trouble the English batters with his sharp accuracy and skill in moving the ball off the pitch.
The 24-year-old is also a handy batter, who has around 550 runs to his name in domestic cricket across the formats. Even the Haryana all-rounder is tipped by many for an India debut on the England tour.
