Team India pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah could miss the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home in September. The Indian men's cricket team selection committee is reportedly looking for a left-arm pacer for the red-ball series against Bangladesh in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

The BCCI wants Jasprit Bumrah fully fit for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series in Australia. The team management aims to manage Bumrah's workload given his injury history. The right-arm pacer was the second-highest wicket-taker in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and won the Player of the Tournament.

Team India To Face Bangladesh In September

The Rohit Sharma-led team is set to play the two-match series as part of the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. The India-Bangladesh series will start on September 19 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The second Test will be played at Green Park in Kanpur, starting on September 27.

Mohammed Shami is still recovering from an ankle injury. Shami will not participate in the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2024, which is set to begin on September 5. Mohammed Siraj will be the only experienced option available at the moment. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee is exploring more pacers.

Team India Considering Including Left-Arm Pacer For Bangladesh Tests

According to a report by PTI, the selectors see the Bangladesh series as a chance to introduce a left-arm pacer in red-ball cricket. Team India tried Jaydev Unadkat in the past, but it did not work. The selectors are likely to opt for a younger bowler for the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh.

The report added that Arshdeep Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Yash Dayal are in contention for selection in the Indian squad. Arshdeep Singh or Khaleel Ahmed could make their Test debut against Bangladesh. Right-arm pacers Mukesh Kumar and Prasidh Krishna can be in contention for the series.

Arshdeep Singh's Performances In First-Class Cricket

Arshdeep Singh is a key player in India's squad in the shorter format of the game. Arshdeep Singh had been identified by former head coach Rahul Dravid for red-ball cricket. He was sent to Kent last year to gain experience. The pacer has played 16 first-class matches and taken 49 wickets at an average of 31.97.

Khaleel Ahmed played 12 first-class games while Yash Dayal featured in 23. Both bowlers had notable performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. They will be featured in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, which may serve as an opportunity for them to prove themselves for a Test spot.

After losing the ODI series in Sri Lanka, Team India aims to recover and regain momentum. They will resume their ICC World Test Championship campaign with the series against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma and the team want to secure victories and boost their chances of reaching the WTC 2025 final.
