Arshdeep Singh exposes his own father for abusing West Indies cricketers: As South Africa defeated West Indies, and India registered a win over Zimbabwe on February 26, the Suryakumar Yadav-led team now has to register only one win to confirm a ticket to the semi-finals.
Team India’s semi-final chances started to fade away as soon as the Proteas handed them a 76-run victory in their first match of the Super 8 phase of the T20 World Cup 2026. After the batting disaster against South Africa, the defending champions needed to tick three boxes to qualify for the next phase of the competition.
Net Run Rates turn the situation complex
Before the India vs Zimbabwe (IND vs ZIM) match, the entire community of Indian cricket fans kept their eyes on the West Indies vs South Africa (WI vs SA) match as well. Before the match, the Carribeans were on top of the points table with a massive Net Run Rate (NRR), followed by South Africa in the second spot. While West Indies and South Africa were containing positive NRRs, the Men in Blue were in third spot with a negative NRR.
Like many Indian cricket fans, Arshdeep Singh’s father also watched the WI vs SA match. After yesterday’s match, the Indian pacer revealed that his father, Darshan Singh, went too intense while watching the match. Arshdeep stated that whenever the West Indies batters hit big shots, his father shouted and hurled abuses every time.
My father started shouting: Arshdeep Singh
“We didn’t watch the whole thing, but it was certainly a see-saw affair. My family was with me in the hotel room, and whenever the West Indies batters smashed a six, my father started shouting: ‘What on earth are you doing?’,” Arshdeep Singh told reporters in the mixed zone.
“He was hurling abuse. I had to settle him down and tell him not to get so worked up. I told him to enjoy the cricket and keep praying for a South African win,” Arshdeep Singh added.
Arshdeep Singh-starrer India claimed a major win against Zimbabwe to keep their semi-final hopes alive. But still, they are not confirmed for the semis. To make their presence confirmed in the next stop of the tournament, the co-host needs to win their upcoming fixture, which will be against the West Indies.
Another must-win match for India in Super 8
The defending champions of the tournament will face the Carribeans on March 1, at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The last match of the Super 8 has literally shaped like a final match for both of the teams. The winner of the match will enter the round of four, and the loser will have to pack their luggage to take a return flight.
As of now, after a couple of intense matches on February 26, West Indies slipped from the top of the ladder to the second spot with 2 points and +1.791 Net Run Rate. At the number one spot, it is South Africa that has 4 points and a Net Run Rate of +2.890. Suryakumar Yadav and his team are holding the third position with 2 points and an improved NRR of -0.100.
