Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar thinks that both Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh have received opportunities but the left-arm pacer has an advantage over his Indian partner.

Since making his India debut abroad, Singh has been on a tear. During the just finished series against the West Indies, the left-arm bowler was even named Man Of The Series.

Singh and Khan are two of the three pacers on the Indian team’s lineup for the 2022 Asia Cup, which was revealed on August 8.

Arshdeep Bowls In The Middle And Death Overs And That Is What The Team Needs: Sanjay Manjrekar

Manjrekar claimed exclusively on SPORTS18’s daily sports news programme “SPORTS OVER THE TOP,” as cited by MyKhel, that the left-arm seamer had a little lead over Khan in the race between the two pacers for a berth in the starting lineup.

“There is actually a nice race going on for that flight to Australia to get that seat in business class. You know these guys travel business class. We used to be in economy, so I say that very sort of grudgingly. So, a race going on to clamour to get those seats on business class to Australia. And that’s where I think you would have to say Arshdeep Singh has overtaken Avesh Khan,” said Manjrekar.

“Avesh Khan is slightly behind there and that is something that’s very interesting. You know this is a real competition going on for spots. Arshdeep Singh has certainly taken a little lead over Avesh Khan because he’s doing exactly what is what Avesh Khan’s role is – to go with the new ball in the middle and in the death as well,” added Manjrekar.
