Ashutosh Sharma Rahul Chahar IPL Trade Rumours CSK DC
PC: X

Delhi Capitals batter Ashutosh Sharma and Chennai Super Kings spinner Rahul Chahar have emerged at the centre of IPL 2027 trade speculation following a discussion involving a couple of journalists. While discussing Chahar's possible destination, a RevSportz journalist mentioned Delhi Capitals and suggested that Ashutosh could potentially move in the opposite direction.

However, the comments should not be treated as confirmation of a swap deal. After posts on X began presenting his remarks as a potential Ashutosh Sharma-Rahul Chahar trade, the journalist clarified that he had not said what was being attributed to him and urged fans to listen to the complete discussion.

How Ashutosh Sharma-Rahul Chahar trade rumours started

The Ashutosh-Rahul trade speculation originated during a wider RevSportz discussion around possible IPL trades and the requirements of different franchises ahead of the 2027 season.

During the conversation, the discussion turned towards Rahul Chahar and his future with Chennai Super Kings. When asked where the leg-spinner could potentially move, journalist Rohit Juglan replied: "Delhi Capitals and from there Ashutosh Sharma will come to CSK."

The remark immediately raised the possibility of a player exchange involving Rahul Chahar and Ashutosh. The cricketing logic discussed behind the theory was CSK's requirement for a finisher, with Ashutosh fitting the profile of an Indian lower-order power-hitter.

However, the larger conversation revolved around possibilities and probabilities in the IPL trade market rather than announcements of completed transactions. Therefore, the comment should not be interpreted as a report that Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings have already agreed to, or are necessarily negotiating, a direct swap involving the two players.

Clarification on Ashutosh Sharma for Rahul Chahar DC-CSK trade rumorus

Juglan subsequently issued a clarification after his comments started circulating on X, where they were interpreted as him reporting an Ashutosh Sharma-Rahul Chahar swap between DC and CSK.

Responding to one such interpretation, Juglan wrote: "Haven't said this bro. Listen to full video."

The clarification is important while assessing the current status of the speculation. His original remarks did bring up the possibility of Rahul Chahar moving to Delhi and Ashutosh Sharma heading to Chennai, but his subsequent response indicates that he did not intend the conversation to be presented as confirmation of a trade.

At the same time, it would also be inaccurate to say that Juglan completely denied the possibility itself. For now, it remains a potential trade scenario discussed ahead of IPL 2027 rather than a confirmed development.

Why Ashutosh Sharma could fit what CSK are looking for

There is a clear cricketing reason why Ashutosh's name has entered the conversation. CSK are understood to be exploring options for a finisher, and the Delhi Capitals batter has established himself as one of the most aggressive Indian lower-order hitters in the IPL.

Ashutosh scored 171 runs from eight innings for DC in IPL 2026, averaging 34.20 and striking at a remarkable 181.91. Across his three IPL seasons, he has accumulated 564 runs in 32 matches at an average of 29.68 and a strike rate of 168.86, hitting 40 sixes.. An Indian finisher of that profile would also give CSK greater flexibility with their overseas combination.

Chahar, meanwhile, had an extremely limited IPL 2026 season with CSK. The leg-spinner featured in only one match, conceding 46 runs from four overs without taking a wicket. He nevertheless has considerable IPL experience, with 75 wickets from 80 matches at an economy rate of 7.77.
He has previously represented Rising Pune Supergiant, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad before joining CSK.

That leaves the biggest question surrounding the theory: even if Rahul Chahar is an option for Delhi, would DC actually be willing to give up a proven Indian finisher like Ashutosh Sharma to get him?

For now, Ashutosh remains a Delhi Capitals player and Chahar remains with Chennai Super Kings. There is no confirmation from either franchise that a swap has been agreed.

Meanwhile, CSK, KKR, and DC are locked in a three-way race to acquire Hardik Pandya for IPL 2027.
