Asia Cup 2023: Afghanistan Announce Strong 17-member Squad For Asia Cup

Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has announced a strong 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia 2023. The tournament will begin on 30th August with the final set to take place on 17th September. A total of 13 games will be played, out of which 9 will be played in Sri Lanka and 4 will be played in Pakistan.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will be captaining the Afghanistan side in Asia Cup 2023 whereas the rest of the squad is pretty similar to what they fielded in the recently concluded ODI series against Pakistan. Few names have been included in the team while some who played in the last series have been dropped.
Azmatullah Omarzai, who was replaced by Gulbadin Naib for the last game against Pakistan in the squad due to injury, has missed out whereas the latter has managed to make the cut into the team. Karim Janat, who wasn’t part of the team for the Pakistan series has been included in the team along with Sharafuddin Ashraf.
Shahidullah Kamal along with Fareed Ahmed Malik and Wafadar Momand were dropped from the Afghanistan team for the Asia Cup 2023. The rest of the players who were part of the Pakistan series have made it into the squad. Notably, they lost the series by a margin of 3-0.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz along with Ibrahim Zadran, and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi will be boosting the batting department. Whereas Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Noor Ahmad are the frontline spinners in the team. Fazalhaq Farooqi also has been included in the team after poor outings in the Pakistan series.
