Asia Cup 2023: Inzamam-Ul-Haq Front Runner To Become Pakistan Cricket Team Chief Selector - Reports

In what has been the latest development as per the reports in Pakistan Cricket, it is learned that former skipper Inzamam-Ul-Haq is all set to become the Chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Team ahead of the upcoming important tournaments in Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC World Cup, slated to take place in India in October-November.
Inzamam-Ul-Haq will take over the role as paid chief selector again, having served in the same post earlier between 2016 and 2019. The reports also suggested that his even director Mickey Arthur and head coach Grant Bradburn’s position in the national selection committee issue in jeopardy. The Cricket Technical Committee members including Misbah-ul-Haq, Inzamam-Ul-Haq and Mohammad Hafeez will take the final decision.
The Cricket Technical Committee members along with PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf will have a conversation with skipper Babar Azam and ask him about if having the team director and head coach on the selection panel has been beneficial for the team. Only after that, a decision will be taken.
Speaking to PTI, the source said: “Once Babar’s views are taken, the Cricket Technical Committee will also finalize its recommendation for the Chairman. The decision to be made is whether only Inzamam takes over as the new chief selector or the entire selection committee be revamped.”
During Najam Sethi’s tenure, no former cricketer was part of the selection committee. Arthur and Bradburn and also Secretary Hasan Cheema were part of the section committee. The committee was headed by Haroon Rasheed.
The decision is expected to be taken next week. It remains to be seen what will happen if Arthur and Bradburn are removed from the selection process. They notably got the coaching role after getting assurances from Najam Sethi that they will be part of the selection matters.

Apart from the Inzamam-Ul-Haq’s news, Misbah-ul-Haq recently was appointed as an advisor to the new Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Zaka Ashraf. The development has been made keeping in mind the focus on cricket affairs in the country.
Misbah-ul-Haq will join the advisor’s role on an honorary basis, meaning that he won’t take a single penny for his services to the PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf. It is learned that he was offered a full-time role in the governing body but he declined due to his other commitments. He’s likely to focus to make cricket better in Pakistan, especially domestic cricket.
