Former Pakistan skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq, who is also the chief selector of the Pakistan National Cricket Team, said that his role will be crucial in the upcoming days since both Asia Cup and ODI World Cup are going to be held in the next few months.

Inzamam-ul-Haq, who was also a part of the 1992 World Cup winning squad with Pakistan, said that the job of the chief selector is always tough but this time it will be more difficult since the 50-over World Cup and Asia Cup are coming along with Australia tour.

“Heading a selection committee is already a tough job in Pakistan, but it is going to be more challenging this time with the Asia Cup and World Cup around the corner followed by the tour of Australia,” Inzamam-ul-Haq said in a statement after being appointed as the Chief Selector of Pakistan Cricket on Monday (August 07).

‘I know I can deliver…’: Inzamam-ul-Haq

However, the former Pakistan skipper who has also has a taste of winning the World Cup said that he is confident to deliver after holding a crucial post in Pakistan. Inzamam-ul-Haq added that he will try to do his job in a better manner than the previous time and will announce quality squads even though there is limited time.

“But, I know I can deliver in this role and I will try to do better than I did the last time. Despite the paucity of time, we will announce the best possible sides,” Inzamam-ul-Haq added.

After taking over the role, the former Pakistan cricketer’s first job was to select a one-day squad for Babar Azam-led Pakistan’s three-match 50-over series against Afghanistan in August. Inzamam already held the office of chief selector from 2016 to 2019 and knows how work is done.

These matches will be crucial for Pakistan and will help them to prepare for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India which is set to begin from 5th October.

In the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan will start their voyage on October 6th and will lock horns against India on October 14th in a high-voltage match that will take place at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
