Asia Cup 2023: Jay Shah Announces Prize Money Of USD 50,000 For Curators And Groundsmen At Colombo And Kandy

The Asian Cricket Council president, Jay Shah announced a prize money of USD 50,000 for the pitch curators and groundsmen at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy for their hard work during the Asia Cup 2023.

As we know, rain has played a spoilsport in the Asia Cup 2023 matches, and the groundsmen have played a crucial role in keeping the match going without any disturbance.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has criticized Jay Shah and ACC for not changing the venues from Colombo and Kandy even after knowing there was a rain forecast. ACC planned to change the Super Fours matches from Colombo to Hambantota however they later refused to replace the venue.

Big Shoutout to the Unsung Heroes of Cricket: Jay Shah

The BCCI secretary and ACC president, Jay Shah took to his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account to reveal the prize money for the unsung heroes of the Asia Cup 2023.

Shah gave a shout-out to the groundsmen and curators and revealed that they would be getting an amount of USD 50,000 from the ACC and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Jay Shah acknowledged their hard work during the tournament in Sri Lanka and said that their work has not gone unseen. The ACC president added that they played a critical role in keeping the tournament happening even in tough situations.

“Big Shoutout to the Unsung Heroes of Cricket! The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are proud to announce a well-deserved prize money of USD 50,000 for the dedicated curators and groundsmen at Colombo and Kandy. Their unwavering commitment and hard work made the Asia Cup 2023 an unforgettable spectacle. From pitch perfection to lush outfields, they ensured the stage was set for thrilling cricket action. This recognition highlights the critical role these individuals play in cricket’s success. Let’s celebrate and honor their yeoman services,” Jay Shah wrote.

India played all their matches in Sri Lanka after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) refused to travel to Pakistan since both the neighboring are having ongoing political turmoil.

In the Asia Cup 2023 final, India locked horns against Sri Lanka on Sunday (September 17th) at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
