Former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria believes that middle-order batters Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul are likely to be included in India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2023. However, Danish Kaneria emphasized that both players should prove their form before making international comebacks.
KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are currently recovering from their respective injuries at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The two Indian batters are working hard to regain their full fitness before the Asia Cup. They recently played a practice match to prove their match fitness.
KL Rahul And Shreyas Iyer Have Been Practicing – Danish Kaneria
During a live session on his official YouTube channel, Danish Kaneria highlighted that Rahul and Iyer will have to play a few matches ahead of the upcoming tournaments.
“KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have been practicing at the NCA and are mostly likely going to be included in India’s squad for the upcoming major tournaments,” Kaneria said.
“However, you cannot bring someone into the team just on the basis of practice. They will have to play matches and should be added to the team only if they show good form there,” he added.
As per reports, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to announce their squad for the Asia Cup on August 20. The selectors will pick their best possible combination for the tournament.
Pakistan Have The Edge – Danish Kaneria
Danish Kaneria believes that the Babar Azam-led team has an edge over the Rohit Sharma-led team in their upcoming encounter, pointing out flaws in the Indian bowling attack.
“Pakistan have the edge, as India don’t look settled at the moment. They don’t know which fast bowlers are going to play,” he further added.
In their spin department, Yuzvendra Chahal has been inconsistent. Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja should be the three spinners, according to me. If they want a spinner on standby, Ravi Bishnoi should get the nod,” he concluded.
The neighbouring cricket teams will face each other in the third match of the Asia Cup 2023 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on Saturday, September 2.
