There is very little clarity over KL Rahul’s availability for the Asia Cup as of now. While Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal have already announced their squads for the continental championship, India is one of the three teams who are yet to do so.

According to media reports, the selectors are set to announce the India squad for the Asia Cup on August 20. One of the reasons behind the delayed announcement could be to have more clarity on the availability of KL Rahul as well as fellow batsman Shreyas Iyer. Both players are currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and are yet to get the green light to make a comeback to competitive cricket.

Iyer has been sidelined since March after he suffered a back injury while fielding during the Ahmedabad Test against Australia. On the other hand, KL Rahul has not played a competitive game since injuring his thigh while fielding during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 1 in IPL 2023.

And while there is still no confirmation about the availability of the players, the signs have been encouraging so far. Both the players recently participated in a warm-up game at the NCA which makes it clear that they are very close to getting the green light on their fitness.

But according to a report in Cricbuzz, there has been no official communication from the NCA managers to the selectors about KL Rahul. The report further suggested that the NCA is likely to give an update on the batsman just before the selection meeting later this week.

KL Rahul sends a message to selectors:

While only time will tell whether KL Rahul makes it to the India squad or not, the batsman has sent out a timely reminder to the selectors. The batsman has been constantly training at the NCA and has looked very comfortable in doing so far.

A recent video shows the batsman sweating it out on the field and he looked at ease while doing so. Prior to this, the batsman had also posted a video on his social media accounts where he could be seen batting and wicketkeeping comfortably in the nets.
