Veteran Bangladesh player, Tamim Iqbal opened up on his retirement and then again reversed his decision to play 50-over cricket again. Iqbal said that he would be lying if he said that everything was fine.

Tamim Iqbal has been suffering from a back injury recently and was snubbed from the Asia Cup 2023 squad for which Shakib Al Hasan has been named as the interim ODI skipper of the team.

However, in a recent interview, Tamim Iqbal said that he has already started his net practice, and if everything goes right then he can come back to the Bangladesh squad before the start of the ODI World Cup 2023.

A few months back, Tamim Iqbal made a shocking decision and announced his retirement from international cricket but did not reveal the reason since he thought it might have caused chaos inside the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

However, Iqbal reversed his retirement decision after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina intervened in the matter and requested the player to continue playing.

I don’t want to be that selfish person: Tamim Iqbal

While talking to ‘Not Out Noman’, Tamim Iqbal said that today he holds the position in his life it is just because of cricket.

Iqbal revealed that there was some kind of miscommunication between the teammates and it was getting tough to make an impact on the game and that is why he retired.

“I would be lying if I say everything was fine. The major thing that came to my mind is that I can be angry with someone or an individual can be upset with me and it can happen but I cannot deny that today the position that I am having is because of cricket. When you are going to such an important tournament and you cannot communicate well or there is some sort of uneasiness eventually it will have an impact on the team and I don’t want to be that selfish person, that is the only reason I left the captaincy,” Tamim Iqbal said.

Tamim Iqbal added that he did not blame any particular person for his retirement for what happened but he blamed himself for it. The veteran player further revealed that injury is not the main reason to announce retirement.

“I have not blamed any individual for what has happened and I always blamed myself. Internally what has been discussed or not should remain internal. Unfortunately in Bangladesh lot of things comes out in the media. Injury is not the main reason to step down but it was part of it and I definitely thought about a lot of things to step down because I felt whoever is leading, the management and everyone has to be in one floor. Whether we win or lose it doesn’t matter but if we are all in the same level it is better for the team always,” he added.

Bangladesh will start their ODI World Cup 2023 journey against Afghanistan on October 7th at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.
