Former Pakistan cricketer and selector Basit Ali has made controversial comments on the India vs Pakistan match ahead of the Asia Cup 2025. The much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash is scheduled for September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, UAE.

Amidst the call for the boycott of the India vs Pakistan clash due to the Pahalgam attack earlier this year, it seems that the game will go ahead as planned, as both the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) remain silent on the social media buzz.

Basit Ali makes bold comment on India vs Pakistan clash at Asia Cup 2025

Referring to the political and diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan, Basit Ali said that it would actually help the Men in Green if the BCCI decided not to play the high-voltage India vs Pakistan clash in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.

He felt India’s denial would save Pakistan from another humiliation on the field after the West Indies embarrassed them in the third and final ODI.

Basit Ali said on The Game Plan YouTube channel, “I pray India refuses to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, just like how they did at the World Championships of Legends. Itni buri tarah maarenge na vo, ki aapki soch hai (They will beat us so badly you can't even imagine).”

Pakistan fans don’t care about losing to Afghanistan!!

After Basit’s remarks, the host laughed off Pakistan’s struggles and said that the team might not even beat Afghanistan in the upcoming continental tournament the way they are playing cricket.

Basit quickly responded by saying that a loss to Afghanistan wouldn’t cause much uproar in Pakistan, but a defeat to India always sparks outrage across the country.

Basit signed off by saying, “If we lose to Afghanistan, no one would care much in this country. But everyone goes mad the moment you lose to India.”

The former cricketer’s remarks on India vs Pakistan game came right after Pakistan’s disastrous performance in the ODI series decider against the West Indies at Tarouba.

Pakistan collapse to 92 all out, lost bilateral series to West Indies after 34 years

Chasing 295, Pakistan folded for just 92 runs in 29.2 overs, suffering a humiliating defeat of 203 runs to lose the bilateral series to Windies after 34 years.

The collapse was shocking from the very start. Openers Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and skipper Mohammad Rizwan all departed without scoring in the first three overs. Star batter Babar Azam managed only 9 runs, while Salman Agha tried to fight back but was dismissed for 30.

West Indies pacer Jayden Seales ripped through Pakistan’s batting lineup, finishing with dream figures of 6/18 in 7.2 overs. The humiliating defeat has triggered furious reactions from former Pakistani cricketers, with Basit Ali adding more fuel to the fire ahead of the Asia Cup 2025.

Before the ODI disaster, Pakistan had managed to win the T20I series against the West Indies 2-1 under Salman Agha’s captaincy. Interestingly, big names like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan did not play in that T20I series, and reports suggest they would also miss out on the Asia Cup 2025 squad.
