Ever since the BCCI agreed to participate in the Asia Cup, they have also agreed to a game against Pakistan after the Asian Cricket Council placed the two arch-rivals in the same group; they have been blasted with criticisms from all directions.

The India vs Pakistan match has been scheduled to be played on the 14th of September, after the Asia Cup 2025 begins on the 9th of September in the UAE, with India remaining as the official host but opting for a neutral venue for the tournament.

Asia Cup 2025: Shiv Sena MLA slams BCCI over prioritizing financial interest

After several politicians, Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray has also stepped up to criticize the board for prioritizing financial gains, as that could be the only reason, he suggests, that the BCCI has decided to overlook the national sentiment of the people surrounding Operation Sindoor.

Today, during the celebrations of the 79th year of Indian independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and made a clear statement that India's Armed Forces would respond firmly to any enemy misadventures.

"It'll be a real shame if the @BCCI thinks it's above what the PM said from Red Fort today. After so many efforts of the Union Government and our country to tell the world that pak is behind the Pahalgham [sic] attacks, the greed for money of the BCCI stands above the sacrifice of the Armed Forces."

"The Nation and even the PM are saying blood and water cannot flow together. With all the might that BCCI has in the ICC, it's a joke to say we are bound by the Asia Cup Rules," Thackeray wrote on his X handle.

India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match - Approved by the Indian government

These incidents have been a jolt to BCCI in the aftermath of the Pahalgam Attack, which later led to repercussions as India waged war against their neighbours with Operation Sindoor.

The attack took place on the 22nd of April in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where Pakistan-sponsored terrorists entered and killed 26 tourists, all men and Hindu.

However, the BCCI had never made any formal decision on India's participation in the Asia Cup 2025 until the Indian government gave them support and agreed to the continental championship. However, despite this, the board has been facing unnecessary hostility.

India vs Pakistan Group Stage game part of ACC's deal with broadcasters

India and Pakistan, the two rival nations, do not feature in bilateral series across white-ball formats and hence have played only in ACC and ICC tournaments for the last one decade. As a result of this, the demand for the India vs Pakistan match is very high.

The broadcasters had struck a deal with the Asian Cricket Council, currently headed by PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi, that the two teams have to be placed in the same group so that at least one game turns compulsory between them.

If India and Pakistan advance to the Super-4 stage, then they will play for the second time in this Asia Cup 2025, while further qualification might mark their third appearance against each other.
