The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has announced a proposal for media rights for the Asia Cup, including both men's and women's tournaments. The Asian Cricket Council has set a base price of USD 170 million for the media rights to the Asia Cup, covering four editions of the Asia Cup from 2024 to 2031.
ACC is offering global television, digital, and audio rights for multiple tournaments, such as the Men’s and Women’s Cups, as well as various under-19 and emerging team competitions. Auction for the media rights is set to take place on November 1, according to the latest report by Cricbuzz.
India Set To Host Next Men's Asia Cup in 2025
The media rights for the Asia Cup will be auctioned for eight years from 2024 to 2031. The next Men's edition is set to take place in India in 2025 (T20 format). Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are the hosts of the upcoming ODI and T20 formats, the Cricbuzz report added.
Future editions will alternate between ODI and T20 formats. Bangladesh will host the tournament in 2027 (ODI), followed by Pakistan in 2029 (T20), and finally Sri Lanka in 2031 (ODI). The auction will be conducted via an e-auction, with technical bids due by October 30 in Dubai, the report further added.
Each edition of the Asian tournament will consist of 13 matches. There will be at least two guaranteed group-stage encounters between India and Pakistan. The two teams could play a third time in the tournament if they advance to the final. India played Pakistan twice in the last Men's Cup in 2023.
Three Women's Tournament Will Take Place From 2024 To 2031
According to the Invitation To Tender (ITT), three Women's Asian tournaments will take place during the rights period. The Asian Cricket Council is planning to finalize the winner through an e-auction. The Cricbuzz report also stated that interested bidders must submit their technical bids in Dubai by October 30.
ACC has also announced that the Women's Cup will include three tournaments during this period. The upcoming Women's Under-19 T20 Cup is scheduled for December 2024 before the Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia in early 2025. Women's cricket is also gaining popularity among fans.
Viacom18 and Disney Star Express Interest In The Media Rights
The media rights auction has drawn interest, particularly from Viacom18 and Disney Star. There’s uncertainty about whether these two companies will bid separately due to their planned merger. It remains to be seen how many broadcasters will participate in the auction and their bidding strategies.
