The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set for a change in leadership, with former India all-rounder and 1983 World Cup winner Roger Binny ending his term as president. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla is expected to step in as the interim president of the cricket board after Binny's tenure.
Roger Binny assumed the role of BCCI President in October 2022, continuing the trend of former cricketers leading the board. He succeeded Sourav Ganguly, who had completed his three-year term. Binny was the sole nominee in that election and became the 36th president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
Roger Binny Set to Step Down as BCCI President on July 19, 2025
Roger Binny is set to step down as BCCI President on July 19, 2025, when he turns 70. It is the age limit set by the BCCI constitution for holding office. Before becoming BCCI President, he was part of the board’s selection committee.
His tenure as president saw notable achievements, including India’s victories in the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy. He also oversaw the launch of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which was a significant step forward for women’s cricket in the country.
Binny played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs in his cricketing career. He was part of the 1983 World Cup and the 1985 World Championship of Cricket-winning campaigns, where he was the leading wicket-taker in both tournaments.
Roger Binny Ineligible to Continue as BCCI President Under Board’s Constitution
Kushan Sarkar, who covers cricket for PTI News, stated that Roger Binny will become ineligible to continue as BCCI President under the board’s constitution. Rajeev Shukla might take over as interim president, or the BCCI could leave the position vacant until its Annual General Meeting in September.
"Tomorrow, July 19, @BCCI president Roger Binny turns 70 and hence technically becomes ineligible to continue office. Will Shukla ji @ShuklaRajiv take over as interim president as constitution allows him or @bcci will keep the post vacant till September #AGM @BCCI #Cricket," Kushan Sarkar.

Rajeev Shukla Expected to Step In as Interim BCCI President
Rajeev Shukla is expected to step in as the interim president of the BCCI following Roger Binny's departure. Earlier, Jay Shah had vacated his post as BCCI secretary after being appointed ICC chairman, with Devajit Saikia filling in temporarily before being confirmed.
Shukla brings decades of experience in cricket administration. He previously served as secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and chaired the IPL from 2011 to 2018. Shukla was elected unopposed as BCCI vice-president in 2020 and was re-elected in 2022.
The 65-year-old will likely serve in an interim capacity, and a permanent president will be appointed at the BCCI's Annual General Meeting. Other senior administrators or nominees from state associations may also be considered.
Shukla will become eligible to contest for the full-time post after turning 66 in September. If elected, he would become the 37th BCCI President.
