The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly expected to send its team to participate in the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 despite ongoing border tensions with Pakistan. India is likely to play in the eight-team tournament, even with Pakistan’s participation, according to a Times of India reporter.
The Asia Cup 2025 was under serious doubt due to strained India-Pakistan relations. However, the tournament is now likely to proceed, but an official confirmation is still awaited. India, despite being the designated host nation, is expected to host the tournament in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Asia Cup 2025 schedule likely to commence on September 8
According to Senior Assistant Editor at The Times of India, Gaurav Gupta, the tournament is expected to be held from September 8 to 28 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Gupta revealed that the tournament will feature eight teams.
Full members Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, along with UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong, who qualified through the ACC Premier Cup, will compete for the coveted trophy.
"Asia Cup update: Tournament is likely to be played between Sept 5 to September 21 in Dubai & Abu Dhabi.. there will be 8 teams involved full members—Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka ACC Premier Cup ke 3 winners: UAE, Oman, Hong Kong," Gaurav Gupta wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

BCCI Yet to Confirm Participation Against Pakistan
A major question for the Asia Cup 2025 is whether India will play against Pakistan. Tensions remain high due to recent incidents like the Pahalgam terror attacks and India’s Operation Sindoor, leading to strong public sentiment against sporting ties with Pakistan.
This pressure has already led to the cancellation of the match between India Champions and Pakistan Champions at the World Championship of Legends, where Indian players withdrew in protest.
While the two teams might be placed in separate groups, a potential clash in the Super 4s or final would make a face-off inevitable, keeping fans and officials on edge.
Asia Cup AGM In Dhaka To Decide Tournament Fate
The Asia Cup Annual General Meeting in Dhaka on Thursday is set to decide the future of the 2025 edition of the tournament. While the BCCI plans to attend the meeting virtually, their participation signals a stronger likelihood of the event moving forward.
The biggest uncertainty remains whether India will face Pakistan, given the ongoing political tensions between the two nations.
The BCCI had earlier objected to the meeting being held in Dhaka, even threatening to skip it and disregard any decisions made there. Sri Lanka Cricket and the Afghanistan Cricket Board were also reportedly considering a boycott of the session.
India was originally supposed to host the entire tournament. However, with both India and Pakistan unwilling to play in each other’s countries, the UAE is expected to host the event. As final decisions approach, questions around the marquee India-Pakistan clash remain unanswered.
